In speaking to the State Department of the United States government  during  the Truman-Eisenhower Administration, black activist and  an important figure of the American labor movement  A. Phillip Randolph stated, “ The American race problem represents the proving ground to the colored peoples of the world as to the sincerity of the United States in the democratic cause.  Jim Crow is America’s national disgrace. It’s existence confuses and embarrasses our foreign policy.”
